Best Supporting Actress
In a first in Academy Award history, the film with the most nominations was not tapped for the Best Picture category. Dreamgirls led with 8 nominations this year but was shut out of most of the major categories. Babel came in second place with seven nominees. Surprisingly, the indie films The Queen and Pan’s Labyrinth both received 6 noms. The highest grossing film in the Best Picture race, The Departed rounded out the top nominated films at 5 nods. The nominations appear to be evenly spread this year, making it possible for all films to go home winners at the Academy Awards ceremony.
