Best Actress
No one can accuse the Academy of voting for lightweights in the Best Actress category, as some of the profession's most accomplished are vying for the award. Helen Mirren's imperial performance in The Queen has been the talk of Hollywood for some time, while Meryl Streep offers her version of American royalty in The Devil Wears Prada. Dame Judi Dench plays against type in Notes on a Scandal, and perennial nominee Kate Winslet is up for Little Children. Penélope Cruz gets her first nomination in Almodóvar's Volver.
