Hanks successfully conveyed the desperate actions of man who faces an inhuman solitary existence on a deserted island. Production was halted for a year while Hanks lost weight to realistically capture the effects of being stranded on an island. For the effort, Hanks won the Best Actor award from the New York Film Critics Circle for his effort. Cast Away reunites Tom Hanks with Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis. Hanks won the Best Actor Oscar for Forrest Gump and another for Philadelphia. Hanks was also previously nominated for Big and Saving Private Ryan.
