In Billy Elliot, Julie Walters delivers a no-nonsense performance as the chain-smoking ballet instructor who inspires the young Billy. Walters secured a Best Actress nomination in 1983 for Educating Rita. Universal Focus' Billy Elliot is the uplifting story of a poor 11-year-old boy from a working class town in England who dreams of attending the National Ballet School. Newcomer Jamie Bell plays the title character that secretly drops his boxing class for ballet lessons. He grew to love dancing, but has to hide it from his father and older brother, who are coal miners on strike. With the help of his ballet instructor, Billy is able to overcome the opposition of his family. Billy Elliot is the feature debut from director Stephen Daldry.
