Denzel Washington is at his best as an inspirational coach in Remember the Titans. Washington commands the team and the screen with a powerful presence few actors can match. Washington is no stranger to the Oscars, having been nominated for Best Actor in The Hurricane and Malcolm X, as well as for Best Supporting Actor for Cry Freedom and Glory, the latter which he won. Based on a true story set in 1971, Remember the Titans follows Herman Boone, a black coach who is chosen to lead a newly integrated football team. The former head coach, who is white, stays on as his assistant. Overcoming prejudice within the team and the community, Boone mends the divided team through teachings of dedication and respect, inspiring them to a string of victories on and off the field.
