Pop star Bjork makes her acting debut in Dancer in the Dark. Playing a woman on the verge of blindness, Bjork's natural performance moves and mesmerizes. Citing the emotional toll the role took, Bjork vowed never to act again. Dancer in the Dark is the story of a Czech woman who moves to the U.S. and is employed at a factory. She discovers that both her and her young son are going blind, but keeps working in order to save up for an operation for her son. In an effort to escape her problems, she daydreams that her life is a Hollywood musical. Director Lars Von Trier pulls no emotional punches in this gripping melodrama from Fine Line Films.
