Raised in her parents' native Australia, Kidman landed her first starring role in the 1983 film BMX Bandits. After garnering accolades for her work in two T.V. movies, Kidman made her U.S. debut in 1989's Dead Calm. Kidman soon became a big name in Hollywood, landing roles in such films as Days of Thunder, Far and Away and Batman Forever. Two of Kidman's following films, 1995's To Die For and 1996's Portrait of a Lady, earned her critical acclaim, while Moulin Rouge earned her an Oscar nom. In 2003, Kidman took home the Academy Award for Best Actress for her efforts in The Hours. |
