The fantasy adventure The City of Ember is set in the future where people live underground because of the toxic conditions in the atmosphere. The film follows two teenagers: a girl who wants to venture above and a young man who wants to repair a failed generator before it dooms the city’s power supply. Caroline Thompson adapts the script from the best-selling young adult novel by Jeanne DuPrau. Gil Kenan makes his live-action directing debut for Playtone.
