There are some real champions in the Original Screenplay category. Todd Haynes' Far From Heaven was shut out of Best Picture consideration, but earns a screenplay nod for the Douglas Sirk inspired melodrama. Mexican hit Y Tu Mama Tambien, which has topped many "Best of" lists, is also in the running, as is the screenplay for Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York, written by Kenneth Lonergan, Jay Cocks, and Steve Zaillian. My Big Fat Greek Wedding gets Nia Vardalos a big, fat Oscar nomination, despite some controversy over the script's original nature. And lastly, Pedro Almodovar earns an Oscar double play, with nods for Talk to Her as Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
