The only woman to earn $20 million a movie, Julia Roberts is seeking her
first Oscar statue after prior noms for 1989's Steel Magnolias and
1990's Pretty Woman. Hoping to block her Brockovich run are
Sundance star Laura Linney for You Can Count On Me, Ellen Burstyn for
Requiem for a Dream, and Juliette Binoche for Chocolat. Also
joining the female fray are Michelle Yeoh of Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon and pop singer Bjork for Dancer in the Dark. Another true
Contender, Joan Allen, is in the running this year for Rod Lurie's
political drama.
