The Contender casts Jeff Bridges as a fictional president of the United States. A seemingly laidback fellow at first, Bridges displays the shrewdness of the character when the time counts. Bridges earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for The Last Picture Show. He was also nominated for his role in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot and Starman. DreamWorks' The Contender is a political drama that chronicles the nomination of Joan Allen as the first female vice president. Gary Oldman plays the political adversary who will stop at nothing to sabotage the nomination. The film is from movie critic turned writer-director Rod Lurie.
