Almost Famous is director Cameron Crowe's semi-autobiographical look at the world of rock 'n' roll during the 1970s. The coming-of-age story is told through the eyes of a 15-year-old named William, played by newcomer Patrick Fugit. The film chronicles the tour of a fictional up-and-coming band called Stillwater where William learns that families are not only inherited, but they can also be created. Kate Hudson turns in a star-making performance as a "band aide" for Stillwater, which is led by Jason Lee as the singer and Billy Crudup as the guitar virtuoso. Though a critical darling, The DreamWork pic failed to ignite at the box office. Almost Famous is the Boston Society of Film Critics' Best Picture.
