With movies that combine technical wizardry and consistent box office success, James Cameron is arguably the most bankable director in Hollywood. Beginning with his 1984 film, The Terminator, Cameron has written every one of his directorial efforts, a vow he made to himself after his disastrous experience directing 1981's Piranha II: The Spawning. With 1997's Titanic, Cameron wrote, produced, directed, and edited the film, winning the Academy Award for his latter three roles. In addition to filling his trophy case, the bevy of awards also confirmed Cameron's reputation as a control freak. However, since Titanic also happened to gross a record $600 million at the box office, Cameron has probably secured directorial carte blanche for the rest of his life. |
