The 2000 Golden Globes honor Hollywood's best.

January 23, 2001

The Hollywood Foreign Press was in a giving mood on Sunday night, as the group doled out its annual Golden Globe awards to several different 2000 films.

While the Roman action epic Gladiator (NOGLA) picked up the night's top prize as Best Dramatic Motion Picture, it won only one other statue, for Best Original Score. In all, four films took home a pair of trophies, while five more movies grabbed one Globe apiece.

On the Hollywood Stock Exchange®, the Gladiator Best Picture NominOption took the top spot among contenders with news of the win. As of Monday morning, the Ridley Scott (NORSC) directed actioner was priced above H$5.00 on the Movie Market™.

In addition to Gladiator, the night's other two-time winners included Almost Famous (NOALM), which earned Best Comedic Motion Picture honors. The film's star, Kate Hudson (NOKHU), picked up the award for Best Supporting Actress. Hudson is the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn, who herself won a Golden Globe and Academy Award in 1969 for Cactus Flower.

Hudson's victory sent her HSX NominOption up 10 percent, easily vaulting her into the top spot of the previously-heated Best Supporting Actress Oscar race.

Although director Steven Soderbergh failed to win the Best Director Golden Globe from either of his two nominations, Traffic (NOATR) did earn Best Screenplay honors for writer Steven Gaghan. Benicio Del Toro (NOBDT) won the Best Supporting Actor prize for his work in the drug-trafficking drama.

Soderbergh lost out to helmer Ang Lee (NOALE) in the Best Director category. Lee, who won for making Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (NOCRO), also snared the award for Best Foreign Film.

Although Crouching Tiger wasn't nominated for the Globes in the category of Best Dramatic Motion Picture, its two wins Sunday night cement its standing as a major Best Picture contender for the Academy Awards.

HSX traders agree, sending Tiger's Best Picture NominOption price to above H$5.00 in the first few days of trading.

Among the one-win films, Erin Brockovich was represented by Best Dramatic Actress winner Julia Roberts (NOJRO), and Nurse Betty by Best Comedic Actress Renee Zellweger (NORZL).

As a result, Roberts climbs 1/4 to H$5.75, while Zellweger jumps 5/8 to H$3.93.

George Clooney took home the Best Comedic Actor Golden Globe for his work in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and Tom Hanks (NOTHA) earned his fourth win from the Hollywood Foreign Press for his work in the deserted island drama Cast Away.

Bob Dylan captured the prize for Best Original Song, for "Things Have Changed" from the Wonder Boys soundtrack.
