Award Options heat up in the wake of the BAFTAs.
By Amy Lamare, February 26, 2003

The British Academy of Film and Television handed out their version of the Oscars last weekend, causing our Award Options to do some shifting.

Despite a BAFTA win for Best Picture, The Pianist (A3PIA), remains well behind Chicago (A3CHC). The Pianist is up to H$3.96, but Chicago still bests it at H$14.62.

Taking home the BAFTA for Best Director was exiled director Roman Polanski (A3RPO), who remains in second place on the Award Options list. Polanski jumps to H$3.83, but remains leagues behind trader favorite Martin Scorsese (A3MSC) and Gangs of New York, which is at H$14.36.

Best Actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis (A3DDA) tops the options list for his role in Gangs of New York. Trading at H$12.15, Day-Lewis is up 2 1/4 points to retain a slight edge over Jack Nicholson (A3JNI), who is at H$11.76 for his performance in About Schmidt.

Nicole Kidman (A3NKI) took home a BAFTA for Best Actress for her role in The Hours and tops the list of contenders on the Movie Market™. Trading at H$15.14, Kidman outdistances competitors Julianne Moore (A3JMF), Renee Zellweger (A3RZE), Diane Lane (A3DLA), and Salma Hayek (A3SHA).

Christopher Walken (A3CWA) earned honors for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Catch Me If You Can, but fails to take the Award Option lead away from Chris Cooper (A3CCO). Walken currently trades at H$2.53, while Cooper leads at H$13.06 for his role in Adaptation.

The Best Supporting Actress award went to Catherine Zeta-Jones (A3CZE), who is also in first place on the Movie Market. Trading at H$10.46, she has a big lead on competitors Julianne Moore (A3JMH), Meryl Streep (A3MSA), Queen Latifah (A3QLA), and Kathy Bates (A3KBA).

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (A3OMB) grabbed the big, fat BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay. At H$14.23, Wedding is also the frontrunner on the Awards Option list. Almodovar's Talk to Her (A3OTA) takes the second spot at H$2.66.

Charlie Kaufman took home honors for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Adaptation (A3AAD). Trading at H$11.63, Adaptation is also the fav amongst traders.

The Academy Awards will be handed out on Sunday, March 23. Awards Options will halt trading at 6 p.m. EST that day. Until then, continue to check in and see how your favorite nominees are making or breaking your portfolio.
